Cultural Excursions

The location of the Agritourism allows to visit and reach various places in province of Trapani, Palermo and Agrigento: the nearby Zingaro Nature Reserve, the archaeological sites of Segesta, and also Erice, San Vito Lo Capo, Mozia, Saline di Trapani, Palermo, Monreale, Selinunte and Agrigento.

It's possible to book in advance excursions.

Tonnara

Scopello

Its name derives from the Greek "Skopelos" (rock), according to the famous cliffs.

Since ancient times it has been know for its abundance of tuna so that Greeks called it "Cetaria" that means "land of tunas".
The Arabs founded there a cottage where fishermen and shepherds lived.
Then, in 1235, Federico II di Svevia granted the property to a group of colonists of Piacenza, but they left it because of the pirates raids.

The towers date back different periods.
They protected the island through the fire in the night and the smoke in the day in order to communicate news.
'Bennistra tower' has been renovated and it is easy to reach on foot enjoing the view.

Castellammare del Golfo

It was born as port of Segesta and it was the main landing place of Erice and Segesta during the prehellenic period.
Renamed Al Madarig by Arabs it preserves the testimonies of the ancient peoples who dominated it.
When the castle was built, during arabic age, the place became a strategic point for the trade.

San Vito Lo Capo

It is famous for its Cous cous: a dish of peace and a symbol of the integration between different peoples and cultures.
San Vito was born near the sanctuary dedicated to S.Vito.
A Saracen fortress dating back to the thirteenth century. In the sea of San Vito were found archaeological remains from the Arab-Norman ship that are now preserved in the Museum of the Sea.

Segesta

One of the main and most powerful centers of Elimi, famous for its greek theatre that in summer put on classical performances.

Erice

Erice is located on top of the mount San Giuliano, around 751 metres above the sea level.
Its position permit to see Trapani and Aegadian islands.
It is founded by Elimi who erected the temple dedicated to the Goddess of Love.
On its ruins now stands the Castle of Venus, fortified by the Normans.
Its main characteristic is that it is a medieval village in which there are little streets, arches, a courtyard and little shops.
Its typical sweet is called Genovese that is not to be missed.
Cloistered nuns created this particular sweet and it's easy to find them in many patisseries of Erice.

Salt pans and Mothia

The saline, salt pans, are on the coast connecting Trapani to Marsala.
Along this way it is possible to admire 'Mountains of salt' partially covered by tiles.
The four islands and the so-called Stagnone that is the biggest lagoon in Sicily constitute the natural reserve of Stagnone Islands.
The level of the sea is slow and it is possible to get to Mothia by boat.
The museum contain lots of objects that were found on the island during Phoenician colony.

Gibellina

It was rebuilt after the 1968 earthquake in an area that is 18 km far from the old country.
It is a celebration of modern art in which various artists took part.
The symbol of the city is the big star in the entrance of the town built by Pietro Consagra.
The ruins of the old city has become a gigantic structure by Alberto Burri.
