With passion, from three generations

Since 2001 Tenute Plaia produces quality wines IGT mostly from native vines.

The young farm has inherited from three generations of viticulturist experience, professionalism and love for a complex and difficult job, linked to climatic variations.

These are the same presuppositions that increase the passion for the land and its products and stimulate the desire to experiment, in search of new cultivation techniques using modern tools of technology.

The love for nature has favored the choice of a cultivation that follows the rules of organic farming, excluding the use of chemical herbicides and insecticides harmful to the environment and human health.

The cultivation of vine in last years has been accompanied by the cultivation of olive, of garden and fruit, their production, to organic conversion, is used mainly in the kitchen of the farm.

 

Location

The ground of our farm are located in the territories of Castellammare del Golfo and Calatafimi Segesta, just two km from Gibellina, in a area with a big number of vineyards.

There are different types of soil and latitude, in the in the territories of Scopello and Ginisara there are clayey soils, the territory of Rosignolo is situated in a hilly area at 350 m up the sea level with an high difference between the temperature of the day and the temperature of the night.

 

The cultivation of vineyards and wine processing

From the vineyard man obtains from millennia the wine. To reach appreciable levels of quality and satisfy the most demanding palates this process requires a constant and continuous care of the vineyard, the control of pruning and cultivation system and the thinning of the bunches. Just so it  can be possible get very structured wines in red berry variety, fragrant and fruity in white berry variety.

From the vineyard the grape is turn into wine and kept at first in stainless steel tanks of medium capacity, used for both fermentation and for short periods of refining and storage. The use of barrique allows the wine to refine and find the balance taste-smell favouring the stability of colour and the correct ripening.

Wine production comes mainly from natives grapes, three types: the elegant and refined “Plaia”, the convivial and intense Tirsi, and the biologic Erabio.
